In the heat of the Philippine summer she practices every day for hours wearing thick leather gear to keep steady as she aims at a target 50m away.

Not only is she a talented shooter, Therese was a dean's lister/honor student and is now studying to become a lawyer. She comes from a family of shooters where her father and siblings all compete and excel in the sport.

Her father encourages her to practice but then when we talked to him, he laughed with pride saying "Pinagalitan nga ako kasi gusto niya mag-dean's list." (She got mad at me because she wanted to get on the dean's list.)

Lucky for him his daughter "fights" him to go to school and study. Therese, thank you for being an example of independence tempered with balance and discipline.
